Painting bathroom tile – Old bathroom tiles that are in good shape, but look dated can be painted to give your bathroom a fresh and clean appearance. This method also works well if you are patching some tiles missing and can not find new tiles in the correct color; painting all the tiles in a new color will give the room a uniform appearance. When painting ceramic tiles in the bathroom, protect the paint from excess water and moisture and cover the painted tiles with a top layer of urethane for durability.
Clean the bathroom tiles thoroughly. Remove soap scum, mold and mildew, as well as the accumulation of grease or wax. These substances can interfere with the adhesion of the paint and tiles and cause the paint to peel off. Allow the tiles to dry completely before painting. Paint the tiles with a brush and resin paint based on oil or urethane. Start at the bottom and top of each tile, position the brush only for the inside of the grout joint. Pull the brush towards you in smooth movements.
Allow the paint to dry completely. Depending on the type of paint used, this could take several hours to several days. Consult the paint manufacturer’s specifications. Cover the painted tiles with a clear top layer of urethane to seal them. Apply the urethane in the same way you painted the tiles, from back to front in gentle movements. Allow the urethane to dry.
